*Superman* writer-director James Gunn, who's also the co-head of DC Studios, gave fans a lot more insight into what's coming with the not-sequel sequel movie, *Man of Tomorrow*.

Gunn appeared on *The Howard Stern Show* on SiriusXM to promote *Peacemaker* season 2 and dropped some intel that suggests a Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) team-up of some sort.

"It's a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat," Gunn told host Howard Stern. "It's more complicated than that, but that's a big part of it. It's as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much."

Gunn announced the next installment in what he calls "the Superman Saga" on Sept. 3. The filmmaker always described *Man of Tomorrow* as not a direct sequel to July's *Superman*, but noted familiar characters from that movie would appear in it.

The director and his two stars previously shared comic book imagery from artists Jim Lee, Jorge Jimenez, and Mitch Gerads depicting both Superman and Lex in his classic green war suit. Gunn also told Stern that filming on *Man of Tomorrow* is expected to begin in or around April 2026.

So far, DC Studios' Superman Saga consists of *Superman*; next year's *Supergirl*, starring Milly Alcock (releasing June 26); and *Man of Tomorrow*, which Warner Bros. dated for July 9, 2027.

The DC lineup consists of other important movies and TV shows, such as *Peacemaker* season 2. Gunn posted on Threads recently to confirm that show is "very very connected" to *Man of Tomorrow*.

Since its July 11 release, *Superman* has grossed $611.6 million at the worldwide box office. The film kicked off the new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and studio co-head Peter Safran. Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Guy Gardner (Nathon Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan) were some of the other characters established.
