- Guillermo del Toro tells EW what Jacob Elordi's *Frankenstein* creature body looks like.

- The filmmaker calls it "staggeringly beautiful" and compares it to a "newborn, alabaster" look.

- He also reveals what the *Euphoria* star said to him about connecting with the creature.

The legacy of Frankenstein's monster is a tale steeped in the gothic horror of Hollywood history, and director Guillermo del Toro exclusively tells ** how he plans to further that legacy with a bold new look for the creature in his upcoming *Frankenstein* iteration.

Speaking to EW ahead of the film's premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker offers a juicy preview of what Jacob Elordi's creature looks like as the *Euphoria* star steps into the iconic yet secretive role.

"No," Del Toro quickly responds when EW asks if audiences will be "terrified" by Elordi's creature.

He goes on to call it "staggeringly beautiful, in an otherworldly way," because what he "didn't want was the feeling that you were seeing an accident victim that has been patched [together]" in a haphazard way by Oscar Isaac's Victor Frankenstein.

"Victor is as much an artist as he is a surgeon, and if he's been dreaming about this creature for all his life, he's going to nail it," del Toro explains. "It looks like a newborn, alabaster creature. The scars are beautiful and almost aerodynamic."

The *Shape of Water* filmmaker describes the creature's skin as coming "from different bodies, so it has different colors" all over. "The hues are pale but almost translucent. It feels like a newborn soul," he explains.

He also shares that Elordi felt a deep personal connection to the monster, which added depth to his performance.

"One of the things I thought needed the most intelligence, emotionally, was to track the evolution of the creature. He said something to me that was touching and real: 'This creature is more me than me,'" the director recalls. "He said, 'And people don't know that, and I'm going to be able to be myself through this.' He brought a truth to this performance that's really something to behold."

Del Toro additionally praises Elordi's body and voice work as "astounding" during production, and that he nailed his scenes in only "one or two takes."

The cast of del Toro's retelling of the classic tale about a scientist who brings to life a creature made from human body parts also includes Mia Goth as Elizabeth, the fiancée of Victor's younger sibling (Felix Kammerer), Charles Dance as Victor's dad, and Christoph Waltz as the arms merchant, Harlander.

"When we first find [Victor], he is this ragged man at the end of the Arctic," he said. "He is terrified. He is running. You don't know if he's running away or running through something or what's going on. As Victor tells his tale, he begins with his father and his own creation. 'How was I created? How was this person created? And if I'm gonna tell you about this horrible secret that I have, I must tell you how it got there. And that's with my own father.'"

*Frankenstein* opens Oct. 17 in select theaters, followed by its Netflix streaming debut on Nov. 7.
