Christiane Amanpour is setting her exit from CNN as the acclaimed journalist’s departure was announced by the news source on Monday, October 19.
According to the international anchor, she’ll sign off for good in June 2027, as she said in a statement, “After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!”
The 68-year-old journalist added that she “looks forward to interesting new projects down the line, and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism. Remember: always be truthful, not neutral.”
Amanpour’s foreign correspondence has been a mainstay at the network, and she’s come to be known especially for her nightly interview program on CNN International since 2009. Back in January 2025, Amanpour reduced her on-screen presence with CNN, opting for a few days a week instead of daily reporting.
As for what’s next, in January 2027, Amanpour will transition to having her program air once a week until it ends in May. She’ll carry on with reporting and traveling the world for CNN through June of that year, as mentioned above.

In a memo to colleagues regarding Amanpour’s exit, CNN chairman Mark Thompson wrote, “Christiane has thought carefully about this decision, and she and I have been discussing it for some months. Like so many CNNers who will hear the news today, I’m very sorry to see her go, but I’ve come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally.”
Thompson added that Amanpour is “one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere” and noted that the network would take time to celebrate and honor her “before she departs next year.”

In Amanpour’s statement, she revealed that she would continue her podcast The Ex Files, with her ex-husband Jamie Rubin.
