Derek Draper explained why he needed to participate in an ITV documentary about his ailing health earlier than his dying.

The previous political lobbyist, who was married to GMB's Kate Garraway, died on January 3, aged 56, from a cardiac arrest after struggling multiple well being problems from contracting Covid in 2020.

The final year of Draper's life has been documented in new movie Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, which can air later in March more than two months after his death.

Draper was asked by ITV why he decided to let the cameras in and he responded: 'I need to be heard.'

Kate, 56, meanwhile admitted she had second ideas concerning the documentary airing after Draper's demise.

'Clearly once we began making this documentary early final yr, we had no concept the events that might unfold that finally took Derek from us. And in January 2024, I questioned if it was proper that it should ever come to air,' she defined.'

In reference to the two previous ITV films about Draper, Kate continued: 'Additionally, I remembered so vividly that the thought of creating this third documentary at all got here from Derek himself.'

She added: 'I am delighted that the movie is a tribute to Derek, his unimaginable spirit and a tribute to all of those that struggle on to make each second of life rely, whatever is thrown at them.'

Kate Garraway: Derek's Story offers an insight into Draper's private struggles with illness and highlights the challenges faced by hundreds of thousands of individuals in the UK dwelling with critical illness and incapacity and people who look after them.

Joining Draper and Kate in Might 2023, the film confronts head-on the truth of Draper's struggles and provides an unflinching view of the impact on all these around while capturing actual moments of affection and pleasure as they spend time together as a family.
